The Auricularia polytricha is one of the oldest edible mushrooms. Its flavourless taste is not liked by everybody, however, due to its consistency it is preeminent to thicken slightly gravies. According to reports one can assume that this fungus had been cultivated in China some 1500 years ago in order to cover the great demand. However, the use of Auricularia for the improvement of human health has a century-old tradition. Today this fungus, which got its peculiar name because of its shape, is mainly cultivated in Taiwan.

In contrary to chemical-pharmaceutical anticoagulants, the Auricularia can improve the blood flow characteristics without damaging any vascular walls.
